The Mid-Autumn Festival, popularly known as the Mooncake Festival, is associated to the Moon Goddess of Immortality and celebrated in conjunction with the lunar harvest festival. Chinese celebrate this by eating mooncakes and carrying brightly-lit colourful lanterns.
Penang Global Tourism celebrated this Festival at the famous Khoo Kongsi on Saturday, 29th September putting on an evening of music and cultural show for the visitors. Children were given the traditional biscuits in little baskets and mooncakes were served to the adults. Foreigners were very happy to share this auspicious occasion with the locals and had a chance to taste the traditional mooncakes.
There were stalls selling souvenirs and local products and of course, it would not be complete without the usual Penang’s hawkers food. It was an enjoyable evening with cool weather and the beautifully-lit Khoo Kongsi as the backdrop.
