Visit Penang by train.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad ( KTMB) is the national train company. It provide railway service around West Malaysia and Thailand.
You may take a train from any state in west Malaysia to come to Penang. The train will stop at Butterworth Railways Station which is in mainland. When you arrive Butterworth, you have to walk about 10 to 15 minute to get a ferry to Penang island.
The train from Butterworth connected to North and South, north is up to Hat Yai, Thailand and south is from Butterworth to Johor Baharu.
The journey from Penang to Kuala Lumpur is about 6 hours. However KTMB new service- Electric Train Srvice (ETS)will be operational by mid of the year, the daily route from Kuala Lumpur to Penang taking approximately 3 hours.
