“Music of the South” presenting the essence of thousand-year old Nanyin. Listen to the haunting sounds of the Xiao from afar, and the captivating blend of traditional and modern music.
Siong Leng Musical Association from Singapore will present “Music of the South” at Cheah Kongsi, Penang on 29 August 2015, at 6pm & 8pm.
This events is free, all are welcome to enjoy the performance.
Siong Leng Musical Association was founded in 1941 to preserve, develop and promote Nanying and Li Yuan opera.
In 2010, the association took part in the Llangollen International Musicical Eisteddfod once again, and claimed first place with a new song composed by Teng Mah Seng, entitled “Facets of Life”. Over the past few years, the group has reached out to schools to educated the younger generation about Nanyin, and has sent selected talents for training in China to raise performing standards. Weaving Nanyin into the fabric of a hectic, fast changing city, Siong Leng hopes to procure a space to grow and flourish.
